True Grit Hospitality Group , the restaurant family that includes concepts like Calavera’s Cantina and Voodoo Bayou , has recently taken over the Delray Beach space formerly occupied by Mediterranean restaurant Taverna Opa and is planning to open a second outpost of its Roka Hula concept there, reports the South Florida Business Journal .

The Business Journal coverage describes Roka Hula, located in Orlando , as a “full-service modern Asian tiki bar and restaurant.” The Delray Beach location opening at 270 E Atlantic Ave. is expected to open sometime in 2025, True Grit “El Presidente” Curtis Peery told What Now on Thursday.

“We just started construction last week,” Peery said.

Peery says the restaurant will fill a need Delray has for Roka Hula’s particular type of experience-focused sushi service.

“I think there is a lack of sushi in Delray, and so this going to be something new to the Delray market. It’s an immersive experience, where you’re transported into the world of all things tiki. Pan-Asian cuisine with an incredible craft cocktail program.”

Behind the menu is James Beard semi-finalist Chef Mike Andrzejewski (whom, the Business Journal coverage points out, you may recognize from appearances on TV shows like Beat Bobby Flay and Chopped ).
