Cherryfish to Replace Swagyu Pacific Beach

A brand new Japanese fusion concept called Cherryfish is preparing to debut in Pacific Beach at 966 Felspar St.

The new restaurant will move into the former home of Swagyu Pacific Beach, which replaced the longstanding Isabel’s Cantina. Cherryfish is the latest concept from partners Dannielle and Carlos Becerra , who also own and operate Palmy’s next door, as well as Downtown’s Parq nightclub. Customers can expect a 2,800-square-foot indoor dining room, a 1,000-square-foot outdoor patio, and a private dining room, first reported by San Diego Magazine . The new concept is expected to open in September .

When Cherry Fish opens later this year, customers can expect Japanese fusion cuisine, fresh sushi, various beers and wines, and house sake. Those interested in getting a closer look at the meals being made can pay to sit in an exclusive area adjacent to the kitchen, large enough to seat 12 guests who enter through a private VIP entrance. The outside will feature an assortment of lounge chairs surrounded by firepits and luscious greenery.

This is the latest development in the ever-changing Pacific Beach, which has seen an enormous turnaround with new developments over the last few months. Recently, the Hideaway opened at the corner of Garnet and Mission, replacing Fat Fish Cantina. Across the street, the Mission + Garnet Food Hall has closed and reopened with a Prince Street Pizza and Los Angeles’s Irv’s Burgers. Cherryfish hopes to be a more unique, permanent spot in Pacific Beach, offering an elevated vibe rarely seen in the area.
