Bisbas Somali Restaurant Replacing Cafe Royale

A brand new restaurant, Bisbas Somali Restaurant , is getting ready to open in San Diego at 6511 University Avenue.

The new restaurant will move into the former home of Cafe Royale in the Rolando Plaza shopping mall, according to documents submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. The owner tells What Now San Diego that he is in the permitting process of the opening and hopes the restaurant will open its doors around November or December , offering authentic Somali flavors to the area. Bisbas Somali Restaurant will sit next to Carnitas Las Michoacanas.

This will be an excellent location for the new restaurant, considering how much foot traffic will come from other surrounding businesses. On top of having plenty of foot traffic, this restaurant will be one of the only ones in the area that serves this type of food. In fact, Bisbas Somali Restaurant will be the only place in San Diego to get authentic Somali food, having to compete only with Faridas Somali Cuisine and Aalami Restaurant – Somali Cuisine.

While the exact menu items have yet to be shared, customers can expect a variety of classic Somali dishes, which are generally meat-driven. There will likely be a lot of goat, beef, and lamb, along with a handful of sides and other delicious options. This will be an excellent opportunity for ownership to bring new flavors of the world to a new part of San Diego.
