According to Palo Alto Online , Mountain View’s German beer garden Ludwigs has a new owner.

“I grew up in beer gardens in Munich, so I know how the food tastes and is served,” new owner Gisela Qasim tells the Journal. She continues, “We have a great selection here, [but] I feel like we can adjust it a little bit to resemble more the Bavarian beer garden.”

Locals can anticipate subtle menu changes—schweinebraten, or pork roast, will be offered on Sunday, glühwein, also known as mulled wine, will be served in the winter, and the Prussian-style sauerkraut will be replaced by a Bavarian version.

“I love to host everyone, all the different cultures in the Bay Area, to show how inviting and inclusive the German community and culture can be, because that’s what my dad experienced when he came,” Qasim shares.

“He was from Pakistan, and he came with a scholarship to Munich in 1961. And my father said the ‘60s in Munich were so open, so welcoming, so warm. And this is what I feel the heart of German culture should be.”

Located at 383 Castro Street , the drinkery is neighbor to establishments such as Red Rock Coffee, Taqueria La Espuela, and Sushi Tomi.
