Haverhill Fire Receives Donation of High-Powered Chop Saw From Merrimac Industrial Sales
The Haverhill Fire Department last week received a new, high-powered electric chop saw for quickly opening difficult-to-access spaces during emergencies. Merrimac Industrial Sales, the Haverhill-based provider of power tools for tradespeople, custom electrical panels and stock electrical components, donated the saw made by Milwaukee Tools. During a presentation at the Water Street fire station, Fire Chief Robert M. O’Brien discussed an essential use of the tool for ventilating a burning structure.

The Supervisors of the Checklist in Plaistow, N.H., meet Tuesday, July 16, to register new voters or make any changes for existing voters except party affiliation. Haverhill Youth, 18, Drowns at Plug Pond Outside of Designated Swim Area
An 18-year-old Haverhill man died early Sunday afternoon after apparently drowning in a deep portion of Haverhill’s Plug Pond. Haverhill Police Chief Robert P. Pistone told WHAV police were dispatched around 1:30 p.m. after receiving an emergency 911 call. The man, whose name has not yet been released, was last seen in the water up to his waist. Haverhill Police, Fire and harbormaster; Pridestar Trinity EMS and State Police and Beverly Dive Teams were all on scene. The body was recovered in water about 25-feet deep just after 3 p.m.

Haverhill Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing Money for Reducing Veteran Suicide Rates
A 48-year-old Haverhill man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Concord, N.H., to defrauding a nonprofit out of money intended to reduce suicide rates among veterans. U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young said in a press release David Duren, also referred to as Dawud Hakiem Duren, pleaded guilty to wire fraud. U.S. District Court Judge Joseph N. Laplante scheduled sentencing for Oct. 10.

Pentucket Regional Schools Name New District Athletic Director
