Colorado's Wheat Ridge Police Department saved two animals from a hot camper on a 93-degree day earlier this month after a concerned citizen called for help.

According to the police department, their team responded to the report of a dog barking inside of a camper on a hot day around 3:00 p.m. on July 11. Once at the scene, police found that a door was unsecured and were able to determine that the camper's internal temperature ranged from 91 to 103 degrees. Authorities decided that the best option was to remove the animals for their safety.

A dog and a kitten were found inside and taken to safer temperatures. Footage from the scene shows the officers making the rescue, assisting a medium-size black dog from the vehicle while its tail is tucked between its hind legs.

Authorities were able to contact the owner of the camper the following day, issuing a summons for animal cruelty for both the dog and the kitten that were inside of the camper.

Law enforcement reminded the public not to leave their pets in cars or trailers unattended on hot days. It doesn't take much for temperatures to rapidly rise inside of a vehicle. According to the CDC, a vehicle can hit 109 degrees Fahrenheit in just 20 minutes on an 80-degree day.
