Local teacher inspiring West Virginia kids through children’s book

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — One local teacher is encouraging young kids in West Virginia to get out and see the beauty of their state in a special way.

Before she attended West Virginia University, Adelin Boggs received an opportunity to go on an adventure like no other that would completely change her perspective on the Mountain State.

As she was growing up in West Virginia Boggs says she always struggled to find a true connection to the state.

Before attending WVU, she had the chance to participate in the Adventure West Virginia program through WVU which offers a variety of state-based, national, and international experiences.

In 2019 she decided to use those experiences as a model for a children’s book that she titled “The Wonderfully Wild Ones”. The book takes readers through Wheeling Staples like the Good Zoo and West Virginia staples like New River Gorge.

”I hope it inspires, like I said, the younger generation to kind of see the value and be a little more inspired about how much we have to offer here. Because like I’ve said before, we have many hurdles to overcome in West Virginia and I think one of the biggest ones is getting the people in the state to see the value and appreciate what we have.”

She says she has lots of ideas for other children’s books but hasn’t found the time just yet to start her next one.

Boggs says when it comes to teaching, she hopes her book inspires her students to follow their dreams and to work hard until they reach their goals.
