    Former Ohio Valley Athlete Headed To The Olympics

    WHEELING,W.Va. (WTRF) – Wheeling will be represented in the upcoming summer Olympics by Wheeling Park alum Rafael Cruz.

    Cruz is an assistant coach for the Puerto Rico men’s basketball team. He was the 1997 West Virginia Player of the Year and helped lead Park to the 1995 AAA state championship.

    He scored 1,306 points in his Patriot career before playing college ball at UMass and Youngstown State. This is Puerto Rico’s first appearance in the Olympics in 20 years.

    Cruz will also be inducted into the OVAC Hall of Fame in August.
