MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. (WTRF) — Residents in one local community took part in a potentially lifesaving training session on Wednesday.

Following a disturbing and sudden uptick in overdose deaths in the Wheeling area, one organization is taking action.

On Wednesday, the Marshall County Family Resource Network hosted a free Narcan training session.

RISE Coordinator Charlene instructed participants on what to do when someone encounters an overdose situation.

That included the proper way to distribute Narcan, the drug used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

We are faced with a lot of people who are using drugs. Especially off the street, you don’t know what you are getting with that drug, so we definitely need to prevent overdoses.”

    Charlene Rine, RISE Coordinator

Everyone who attended the training was given a free Narcan kit to take home.
