WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — Ohio Valley residents turned out in droves to help make this year’s No One Walks Alone fundraiser a huge success.

On Wednesday, several of our representatives here at WTRF were proud to present a check for $4,500 to Helping Heroes.

The walk, which is part of Nexstar Broadcasting’s annual Founders Day of Caring, helps raise awareness to combat veteran suicide.

Over 170 people participated in this year’s walk, and officials with Helping Heroes say it’s making a difference.

The number of people who showed up really touched my heart, and we are hoping that it will continue to grow each year.”

    Jeremy Harrison. Founder, Helping Heroes

The funds raised, of course, are wonderful, but the event does a lot more than that. It brings a lot of publicity to veteran’s causes, and it actually—we saw this last year, we saw it again this year—in the weeks after the event and the promotion of the event on television, we see our phones ring from veterans who are in need of services. So it does increase awareness, and we served more veterans this year than we ever have in the past.”

    R.J. Conkoleski, CEO, Helping Heroes

Officials from Helping Heroes say the money will be used for renovations to their new building.
