WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) – We can all agree that we need the rain.

Remember back in May when we once had a year to date surplus of rain, well it is now a deficit.

We are on pace to crack the top 5 driest Julys for the Wheeling Area, with the dries July ever being set in 2020.

The drought monitor reflects on our lack of rainfall, with the latest update classifying our region within “severe drought”.

This classification is exceptionally rare for our region, according to The National Weather Service, Pittsburgh Office.

Will we see rain anytime soon?

In short, nothing widespread of problematic.

The extended forecast for our region favors near to slightly above normal precipitation for the early stages of August.
