Wheeling, W.Va. (WTRF) – OPA! It’s the Greek word for excitement or Cheers and you will hear quite often over the next four days in the Center Wheeling Area.

That’s because the 23rd Annual Grecian Festival is officially underway.

The event is put on each year by the parishioners of St. John the Divine, Greek Orthodox Church and is a celebration of Greek culture, faith and history.

There are gyros, baklava and all types of Greek pastries and don’t forget the “OPA fries.” They have all that and an endless menu of authentic Greek cuisine.

Of course there is also dancing, live music and for the first time a Greek market area.

“It’s going to be a great weekend. We hope everyone can give it a try. Come on down to the Greek Fest. If you’ve never been, you will love it and will come back again next year, I’m sure. We think the weather is going to be favorable. We have plenty of parking. Come on down. Although we have some detours in town, we are very easy to find.”

    Gus Kayafas, Festival Director

They can be found on Chapline Street between 22nd and 23rd Streets. Festival hours are from 11:00am until 9:00pm all four days.

Now if you hurry you can make on time to check out the authentic Greek dancers. They will get started at 6 o’clock and that’s a show you don’t want to miss.
