WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — As one local institution is preparing for students and staff to return from summer break, they are also getting ready for the first semester of classes with the new campus carry bill in effect.

The Campus Self-Defense Act was officially implemented on July 1 in all West Virginia Colleges and Universities, including West Virginia Northern Community College.

The new law will allow anyone with a concealed carry license to carry a concealed pistol or revolver on campus.

The president at WVNCC, Dr. Dan Mosser, says they have been working hard to ensure the procedures for the law are clear and safe when classes resume.

All the work and preparation for the new concealed carry law was funneled through our safety committee. We have a safety committee of about 12 individuals, faculty, staff, and student representatives on the safety committee. Like I say, they set up a subcommittee specifically to write the procedure and the rules governing how this will be handled on campus.”

Dr. Mosser says signs have been placed throughout the campus to declare where firearms are allowed and where they are not.
