WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital and WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital announced that they will begin collaborating more closely around labor and delivery services by taking a more regional approach that enables the two hospitals to focus their resources at one care site versus two.

WVU Medicine says in doing so will strengthen efforts to enhance both the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Wheeling Hospital and its overall labor and delivery experience for patients while greatly aiding efforts to recruit new labor and delivery physicians and providers.

Reynolds Memorial will continue to offer prenatal obstetrical care as well as gynecological care with its clinic hours remaining the same. The hospital’s labor and delivery team will also be integrated into the Wheeling Hospital Women’s and Children’s Team, thus preserving critical positions and jobs as we continue to grow and enhance this service for the whole region.

In addition, the WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital in Morgantown will be working with each
hospital in the region (Wetzel County Hospital, Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Barnesville
Hospital, and Harrison Community Hospital) to ensure that our emergency room physicians and
nursing staff are properly trained to care for any woman who presents in active labor. Also,
Wheeling Hospital will be enhancing its NICU transport services with the purchase of a new
incubator to better care for any newborn that needs to be transported to the regional NICU.

The changes are expected to be made in Fall 2024. Each patient currently at Reynolds Memorial
Hospital will be contacted personally to discuss the changes and will be invited to attend an
open house at Wheeling Hospital soon.
