WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the history of the Friendly City you are in luck.

In a partnership with Wheeling Heritage, Ohio County Schools is offering one of their more popular elective classes to the entire community.

Over the past several years the History of Wheeling course has been one of the most popular classes at Wheeling Park High School. Now, 2023 Wheeling Park High School Teacher of the Year Ryan Stanton will begin teaching the class to interested community members as well.

The course will walk participants through Wheeling’s unique history and highlight many significant events that played a role in shaping Wheeling into the city it is today.

”I think the main point of the class is just to teach students and adults too now, to have a sense of community and to understand where they live and how to be involved and also to have, you know, a stake in the future of what is happening in Wheeling too when they have a voice.”

Ryan Stanton – Social Studies Teacher, Wheeling Park High School

The first class will be in Wheeling Park High School’s Tech 1 classroom on September 7 from 10am to 11am and after that, the class will be held every first Saturday of the month through April.
