Hosted at Garden Park in Warwood, The Warwood Farmers Market brings together farmers, artisans, volunteer organizations, and residents, creating a bustling hub of activity every Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Afterward, there is a City of Wheeling Toe Tappin’ Tuesday concert every week.

With a steadfast commitment to supporting their local agriculture and fostering community connections, the Warwood Farmers Market offers a diverse array of fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, handmade crafts, and more. Visitors can expect to discover a treasure trove of goods while enjoying fellow shoppers’ lively atmosphere and camaraderie.

Matt Rafa, co-chair of the Warwood Farmers Market, said, “We are thrilled to celebrate the abundance and support of our market this season. Our market provides access to nutritious, locally grown food and serves as a gathering place for neighbors to connect and support one another. There is no better place to be on Tuesdays in Wheeling than at the Warwood Farmers Market because you see the community in action. It’s a coordinated effort among volunteer organizations, nonprofits, and volunteers who strive weekly to be a destination for people of all ages to gather and support our local small business vendors.”

Recently, The West Virginia Farmer’s Market Association awarded the Warwood Farmers Market over $4,000 in grant funding to help improve their facilities, increase outreach, and enhance their overall impact on local food systems.

The Warwood Farmers Market is grateful for its partnership with the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition (WVFFC). They say they appreciate their administration of the SNAP Stretch Program over the past three seasons. This initiative allows SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) recipients to double their purchasing power for fresh fruits and vegetables at the market. Additionally, SNAP recipients with children or those aged 60 and older receive triple their spending power for produce.

The Warwood Farmers Market says they are deeply grateful for the unwavering support of their community and their sponsors, Grow Warwood Pride and the Ohio County Virtual Lions Club. Despite the temporary pause of the SNAP Stretch Program, they say they are committed to supporting the program through this generous support. The WVFFC is actively seeking funding partners to sustain the program, including the state of West Virginia, which has announced an $800 million budget surplus. The Coalition hopes to secure a small portion of this surplus to continue the program.

The Warwood Farmers Market is also excited to bring back their children’s market, which provides free tokens to spend on their own fruits and vegetables to teach children how to shop in the market, interact with vendors, learn about the food, and make choices. Along with the free children’s arts and crafts program every week, Warwood Farmers Market has embraced being a venue for families and children. Wheeling Heritage and the Sisters of St. Joseph have made funding for the children’s market this season possible.

Established in 2016, the market has become a beloved destination for residents and visitors alike, offering fresh produce, artisanal goods, and a vibrant atmosphere every Tuesday from June to the last week of August.
