The California Missing Five: The 2011 Disappearance of Shawn Dickerson
24 days ago
Shawn Dickerson dreamed of moving to New York City with a friend in 2011.
He was sharing a San Francisco apartment with five other roommates in an effort to save money and was working at a men’s clothing store. He also was playing the keyboard in a local band.
On December 1, 2011, Shawn left work around 11:30 a.m. for a lunch break. Shawn did not return to work, however, for unknown reasons, and his boss texted him that he was on the verge of being fired. Shawn allegedly told his boss that he’d be there the next day.
The next morning, however, Shawn woke up around 11:00 a.m. He did not go in to work.
He left his apartment around noon, taking only his cell phone.
Shawn walked around various points of interest in San Francisco and took pictures with his phone. He posted 16 photos to his Facebook page at 4:02 p.m.
This was something Shawn had never done before, so people took notice.
From there, Shawn Dickerson disappeared.
He never returned to the apartment; no one saw or heard from him. Attempts to reach him on his phone were unsuccessful.
His family would be leading the charge, searching for Shawn. For four days they searched all over San Francisco. There was no sign of Shawn.
On December 6, 2011, Shawn Dickerson was reported as missing.
Of course, a young man- Shawn was 23 years old, he didn’t have to answer to anyone. This is always the problem with missing adults, especially young adults like Shawn.
His mother used every resource she could think of and started gaining some attention on social media. Soon, another mother of a missing person reached out to her. She believed Shawn may be living among the Rainbow Family.
The Rainbow Family of Living Light is a counter-culture, in existence since approximately 1970. It is a loose affiliation of individuals, some nomadic, generally asserting that it has no leader. They put on yearly, primitive camping events on public land known as Rainbow Gatherings.[1]
Did Shawn go off to live with others in the Rainbow Family?
Further investigation into the group to see if Shawn indeed did join their family, turned up no signs of Shawn, but the group tends to stay off grid and live under the radar.
Did Shawn simply walk away from his life?
He was struggling with his job for some reason, and his behavior was a little unusual.
Maybe, he was considering self-harm Perhaps he was that distraught, and no one was quite aware. His family doesn’t believe Shawn would take that route, but his ex-girlfriend and roommate think that is possible considering his odd behavior.
Other rumors have surfaced indicating Shawn was doing some low-level drug dealing.
Did Shawn possibly run into foul play?
The truth is, we just don’t know. Shawn Dickerson is still missing from San Francisco, California.
He is described as a Caucasian male, standing 5’8” and weighing around 140 pounds when he was last seen in December 2011. Shawn has blonde hair and blue eyes but may dye his hair brown.
He was last seen wearing a black or gray hooded sweatshirt, a black dress shirt, black pants, and brown dress shoes.
Shawn was 23 years old then, and would today be 35.
