As reported Thursday on News Center 7 Daybreak , the Xenia City Council is considering a temporary ban on some new facilities.

This comes after Kettering Health announced plans to build a new hospital. It would replace Kettering Health Greene Memorial with a new $44 million medical center, Kettering Health Xenia, as News Center 7 reported back on Aug. 7 .

The news came after Xenia city officials offered to acquire Greene Memorial from the healthcare network.

News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher reports the proposed change is on the Xenia City Council’s agenda for tonight’s meeting where they will discuss the issue.

They said the city’s zoning codes are not prepared for the change. The council adds that it only includes rules for hospitals and not for 24-hour emergency rooms.

An emergency room was included in the plans for Kettering Xenia.

A Kettering Health official told Fletcher they are open to feedback on the new hospital.

“We will continue to do that research in listening to the community and be able to respond back with an answer of what that patient population is telling us they need,” said Daniel Tyron, Kettering Health Greene Memorial President.

Fletcher also spoke with a woman who was excited about a new hospital.

“It just didn’t seem like it was up to the standards that it should be,” said Nicole Cooke. “So, that’s why we always kind of choose to go a different route.”

Greene Memorial Hospital is a slum. I recall arriving at ER with c/o severe pain (10+) in my RLQ and hx of having been told by GI to seek medical help immediately for appendectomy upon having said pain because I had a stone in my appendix. The surgeon on call decided not to come in to do surgery but admitted me and held me until morning. No pain meds eased my pain at all. I laid all night very close to death. Appendicitis is a life-threatening diagnosis that requires emergency surgery—not a wait until morning when I feel like it operation. X-ray revealed ruptured appendix at time of admission. I asked the surgeon if my outcome would not have been better had he come straightway to do surgery, which is best practice. He said if he’d come in, the hospital would’ve put more on him, and since he was scheduled to work next day, he decided not to come. Due to reckless treatment I received, I had to remain in hospital on IV antibiotics. $Admin $taff defended him$. I am a nurse—I know better!
