Detached garage collapses during fire in Dayton; No injuries reported

A detached garage collapsed during a fire in Dayton Sunday evening, according to Dayton Fire Department District Chief Matt McClain.

Dayton fire crews were called to the area of Hawker Street and Lathrop Avenue on reports of a fire at 6:20 p.m.

According to McClain, crews found one detached garage engulfed in flames upon arrival.

“There was heavy fire involvement though, so we were a little bit concerned about the fire getting to the house. So I did call for a couple extra pieces of equipment right away in case it got into the house,” McClain said.

Crews extinguished the fire and prevented any fire extension to the house.

Two neighboring garages were damaged in the fire.

“A lot of these times, these garage fires like this there so close together, we do get some heat damage to the surrounding structures sometimes,” McClain said.

A fire investigator has been called to the scene.

“We have been getting a lot of garage fires on this part of the eastside... so anything suspicious, as always, we call our investigators out,” McClain said.

No one was injured in this fire.
