‘He was laying on the ground;’ Witness captures erratic driver run stop sign, hit person

Drivers said they watched as a car failed to stop and hit a person in Dayton Monday afternoon.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11, Around 5:40 p.m. police were called to the 2100 block of Edwin C. Moses for reports of someone hit by a car, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch.

Bill Burret’s captured video showing the car swerving all over the highway before the crash.

“They would drive, fight back and forth across the highway, driving in the middle lane, driving in the shoulder, nearly hitting other cars,” Burret said.

He called 911 and followed the driver about four miles down I-75.

“Eventually they exited onto this exit right here. Came down, they didn’t stop at the stop sign and went straight through the stop sign and unfortunately, there happened to be a man standing on there,” Burret said.

He said people rushed to help the person hit.

“He was laying on the ground, his legs were bent up to the side,” Burret said.

Burret used his car to stop traffic.

He admits he was disappointed when police weren’t able to stop the driver before the crash.

“But ultimately I am just frustrated that someone would get behind the car when they’re clearly not good to drive,” Burret said.

We are working to learn how seriously the man was hurt and if the driver has been stopped by police
