Residents Come Together To Herd Water Buffalo Out Of Nashville Neighborhood

Bachelorettes aren’t the only wild animals you have to watch out for in Nashville.

A neighborhood just east of downtown Music City has recently had to deal with another type of wildlife roaming their streets: Water buffalo.

Now, like the tourists that run wild on Broadway, these animals aren’t native to Nashville. In fact, more than 95% of the world’s population of water buffalo are found in Asia. But since being imported to the United States, the beasts are typically found on farms and ranches, where they’re bred and raised for their meat and milk.

But apparently one farmer in Tennessee has had some trouble controlling his herd recently.

According to residents in one Nashville neighborhood just east of downtown, the water buffalo have escaped their enclosure at a nearby farm not once, but twice in recent days, and ended up roaming the residential streets.

Again, kind of like tourists who escape the enclosures of Jason Aldean’s bar and wander off of Broadway to explore other parts of the city.

But anyway, a homeowner in the neighborhood spoke to WKRN in Nashville and said that the animals have been on the nearby farm since around 2017. And on two recent occasions, the gate has apparently been left open at the farm and allowed the dozen or so water buffalo to make their way into the neighborhood.

The resident says that he and his neighbors got together to try to herd the animals back to their farm:

“We were going forward and backward trying to keep them within that certain area so they wouldn’t go anywhere until the farmer got here to retrieve them.”

I wonder if we all got together to herd the bachelorettes back to Broadway…
