I swear this isn't an implicit dual-meaning dig at Stetson Bennett, who took a hiatus from football during his rookie NFL season last year for unspecified off-field issues, but the dude basically was Van Wilder/ Bert Kreischer at the University of Georgia. He was well into his 20s by the time he was dotting up defenders who might not have been in his high school graduating class in leading the Bulldogs to two straight national championships. Bennett should have a little bit of a grace period as he knocks off the rust after a long time away from the field. How
much of a grace period the Los Angeles Rams give him remains to be seen. Jimmy Garoppolo's two-game suspension to start the 2024 campaign may be the only thing that keeps Bennett on the roster at this point if his form in Sunday's preseason clunker against the Cowboys is any sign of what's to come. For somebody who turns 27 in October and should frankly know better than to try to become the first man in NFL history to throw a football straight through another human being, Bennett did not look the part of NFL quarterback. That's what he appeared to try to do on his second, third and fourth interceptions of the afternoon: https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1822753536062656636 https://twitter.com/dallascowboys/status/1822764587806326876 https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1822772829622005975 Bennett's first pick, though? In the immortal single-word lyric of AWOLNATION, "SAIL!!!!!!" https://twitter.com/BillyM_91/status/1822739602643337349 https://twitter.com/TheDallasNation/status/1822739696549830950 Time to invoke a stretch of a reference to JK Simmons' character from
Whiplash. Follow me here. The scenario: Simmons' Fletcher boots a student out of the classroom for his instrument being out of tune, even though it wasn't. Fletcher reasons that the fact the student didn't know his instrument was out of tune is "bad enough." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9VViSscQvA I don't know if I'm hoping that Bennett was trying to Homelander the abdomens of Cowboys players with laser-rocket throws, because that'd be a whole other can of worms. However, it's almost worse for Bennett's sake that he straight-up didn't see the Dallas defenders waiting for his passes to drill them in the chest. Classic that Stetson would throw the number of interceptions to match the Roman numerals in his name. Thanks for the chuckles, Stets. See you on an NFL field never.
