If there is any artist who could have left country music and become an outdoors guide, it’s without a doubt Hank Williams Jr.

Hank Williams Jr. would probably be happy living off the grid in the woods if he could. He is very open about being an avid outdoorsman, spending all his free time away from music, often on a lake fishing or hunting in the woods. Williams frequently speaks about his fondest memories while touring were exploring the outdoors across the various states and cities he visited.

In the early 2000s, Hank Williams Jr. shot an episode of The Hunt, in which a videographer joined him in his old-fashioned laddered dear stand, capturing every moment on a final hunt of muzzleloader season. The cold Kentucky morning did not lead to the best conditions for the hunt, and given that it was late in the season, deer were on the move.

On the chilly morning, Williams Jr. sits patiently in his stand, waiting for a buck to come along. As a flock does appear near his stand, he knows a buck is soon to follow, and his intuition is correct. Williams Jr. lines up his shot and takes his time, ensuring that he will hit the deer on a mark that will bring him down. Until the shot was made, Williams Jr. was silent on the video, but after making his shot, he looked up at the camera and gave a devilish laugh, noting he believed it was a perfect shot.

“I’m shaking. It’s only about maybe five below this morning. The wind’s blowing about 20-30 mile/hour gusts, and I just shot at the biggest I’ve ever shot at. I hope we find him down here.”

After he climbs down from his stand, he feels confident that right over the ridge, he will find the buck, and as the blood trail thickens, he finds his prized buck. The stunning fourteen-point buck has Williams Jr. giddy like a kid in a candy store.
