Drone Captures Its Own Demise As Great Horned Owl Smokes It In Mid-Air

The updated score after this incredible encounter: Owls – 1, Technology – 0.

We humans have accomplished a number of challenging things over time to mimic the ease of flight that birds possess. Airplanes and drones are some of civilization’s greatest inventions, yet they still are not at the level of perfection that mother nature blessed every flying creature with.

One animal that boasts a number of unique characteristic is the owl. They are considered to be exceptional fliers, and even have the ability to fly without making any noise at all. This obviously helps them stand out as one of the most effective aerial hunters in the animal kingdom.

To be more specific, great horned owls just might be the most intimidating owl of them all. They are certainly the largest, with some growing to be almost three feet tall. And with their advanced hunting abilities (their grip strength ranges from 200 to 500 psi), great horned owl are also known to be incredibly territorial.

That’s on full display in this video, where one of the big birds saw an unidentified flying object (at least to it) and decided to take matters into its own talons. A drone was trying to get an aerial shot of a home at night, and though they might not have gotten the exact footage they wanted, what they did end up getting might have been better anyways.

Even though the drone may have been lost in the process.

Swooping out of the night sky comes a great horned owl on an absolute mission to take down it’s newfound enemy – the flying drone. The video captured up until the drone’s presumed final moments is remarkable, and paints a picture of how powerful an owl can be.

Which is better explained by the post’s caption, which reads:

“Great horned owls are known for being highly protective of their nesting areas and will aggressively defend their territory from intruders, this includes from other raptors and whatever else dares to enter their predetermined no-fly zone.”
