    Did you get it right?

A couple of days ago, we posted a teaser of an artist’s cover of “Someone Like You” by Adele, and asked if anybody could guess who was singing.

And we got a ton of responses.

A lot of people thought it was Jamey Johnson, Brett Eldredge, or Eddie Montgomery from Montgomery Gentry (which turned out to be a pretty good guess). But then there were some…well, not so great guesses. (I can confirm that is definitely NOT the Hawk Tuah girl’s voice).

We got everything from Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll to Chris Stapleton and Stephen Wilson Jr. And many people even said that, whoever it was, they liked this version better than the original.

Of course, many people were quick to recognize that the artist who will be releasing his own cover of the Adele hit is none other than rising country star Dillon Carmichael.

In case you didn’t know, Carmichael is the nephew of Eddie Montgomery and John Michael Montgomery – so for everybody who thought it was one half of Montgomery Gentry, you weren’t terribly far enough, because they sound a lot alike.

There was also a clue in the comments: Dillon’s better half, his wife Shayla, even commented saying that she couldn’t wait to hear the whole thing. And she’s in luck, because Dillon will be dropping his version on September 18. (Something tells me Shayla isn’t going to have to wait that long to hear it though).

The inspiration for the cover of one of Adele’s biggest hits actually came during a night of karaoke. A member of Dillon’s team encouraged him to sing the song, and after he (of course) nailed it and saw the reaction from the crowd, he decided to cut it for himself – as a country song, complete with a pedal steel.

If you haven’t dug into Dillon’s catalog yet, I highly recommend you do that before this new one drops. As would be expected coming from a family of country legends, Dillon’s powerful voice and stone cold country sound make him one of the more underrated artists in Nashville right now, and somebody who’s poised to blow up once the rest of the world finds out what a superstar he is.

His single “Son Of A” was easily one of the best country songs of 2021, and his 2021 album of the same name is filled with songs that belong on the playlist of anyone who’s a fan of that ’90s country sound we all know and love.

He’s also shown off his range with everything from heartfelt songs like “I’d Call Grandpa” and “Dancing Away With My Heart” to beer drinkin’ anthems like “Paychecks and Longnecks,” as well as his latest single “Drinkin’ Problems.” But through songs like “Red, White, Camo and Blue” and “Where I Grew Up,” you get a sense of who the Burgin, Kentucky native really is – just a good ol’ country boy with a killer voice.

(He also manages to inject his sense of humor into his songwriting with songs like “Big Truck,” his 2021 single “Hot Beer,” and one of my personal favorite songs of his, “Sawin’ Logs”).

With range like that, it’s no surprise that Dillon managed to pull off a cover of one of the most talented vocalists in music – and like his wife said, I can’t wait to hear the whole thing either.
