COUNTRY. Today, Post Malone released his debut country album F-1 Trillion , which features a star-studded list of collaborators like Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams Jr. and many, many more. But that wasn't all he had up his sleeve... as of noon EST, Posty released a separate project and extension of his country album called
F-1 Trillion: Long Bed , which is extremely twangy and full of that classic country sound I was hoping he would include on the initial record. I do understand why he did it this way for his debut country album and directed the sound towards the more mainstream section of fans (when he's previously stated his favorites being Tyler Childers, Colter Wall and Sturgill Simpson), in addition to recruiting so many stellar artists and creating tons of buzz, but this is what I selfishly had in mind when I first learned that he was going to fully immerse himself into the genre. "9 more solo records. 'F-1 Trillion: Long Bed' out now :)" https://www.instagram.com/p/C-vJqRwM-A1/ In an interview with Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen
, Post explained that he's always naturally leaned more into the country writing style of greats like Hank Willliams Sr.: “Even when I was a kid, whenever I was playing and recording myself and stuff, I would just write Hank Sr. songs, just in that vein, because all I had was Audacity, the free recording thing and I would just sit on my bed and write these songs. I have no idea, I don’t know what ‘My Son Calls Another Man Daddy,’ I don’t know what that’s about, but I’d write it about the girl from science class or whatever.” And I think that's apparent on these nine songs more than anything else. I said earlier today in my initial story about Post's album that I wanted more solo songs, so ask and you shall receive certainly applies here. From a murder ballad "Killed A Man," to straight country heaters like "Go To Hell" and "Back TO Texas" and even sweet, softer love songs like "Hey Mercedes," this is a really impressive collection of songs that feels elevated and very well-crafted. These are already my favorite tunes from either
F-1 Trillion project, and the writing he did with so many of Nashville's best really shows in these songs. Posty certainly holds his own in the country space, and I don't really think that's up for debate even if you still don't love the music. They're not overly thought out or any sort of deep dissertation on life, but they country as hell and really dang fun to listen to. Unlike so many forgettable country albums we've heard this year, many from country artists but even beyond that, Post is making a splash and I think his process has a lot to do with that. He's also an extremely talented artist, who can pull off so many genres from rap, to rock and now country, and he's winning me over more and more with every release... especially this one.
