Friday is always my favorite day of the week because we get to see all of the new releases from artists, and it's the start of the weekend. With Muscadine Bloodline and Post Malone's album dropping, this is already an amazing day... and it just got even better, thanks to Sturgill Simpson. Last weekend, Sturgill Simpson returned to the stage at Outside Lands Festival. While the bill said Sturgill Simpson was taking the stage, per his new record release, Johnny Blue Skies was also present on stage. The packed crowd was all ears once Simpson took the stage, eager to hear some of his old hits, as well as the newer,
already beloved songs . https://www.instagram.com/p/C-kN0E9NB0O/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=52cf4d4a-b46e-42fe-9e8c-7fecacb5a66a While a few clips swirling on social media gave an incredible peek into the set, showing that Stu brought all of the jam band vibes to the stage, fans who could not attend were thrusting for more. Stu heard our cries and decided to give fans what they wanted...a video of the entire performance. Watching the full set amplifies the jam band vibes from the previous video clips. Simpson's flow from one song to the next leads to an hour and a half of musical goodness. The setlist is the perfect mix of old and new, debuting songs like "If the Sun Never Rises Again" and "Right Kind Of Dream" but also keeping the classics like "Long White Line," "Turtles All The Way Down," and his stellar cover of When In Rome's "The Promise," that appeared on
Metamodern Sounds In Country Music. I will personally admit that I am not someone who often likes to sit and watch a whole concert set if it's not one I was at, and I will usually jump around, watching bits and pieces, but this one is captivating from start to finish. If you're someone who throws on a live show in the background of your work, I would say listening to this does it justice, but the visual makes it. Simpson is so in tune with his band and lyrics, it's written all over his face which makes the listening experience even better. Stu is SO back, and his comfort on stage is unmatched; it's his zone and where he cooks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEeg6rUFB4I
