My brain can almost not compute this… Great white sharks are obviously one of the most feared predators on planet Earth. They reach 20 feet long, 5,000 pounds, and have a mouthful of razor sharp teeth that can bite with a mindboggling 18,216 Newtons of force. For reference, a pit bull’s bite is around 1,045 and an alligator’s
is around 16,000. They can swim at speeds of up to 25 mph, go down to depths of 3,900 feet, and have no known natural predators, other than on very rare occasions orcas , meaning pretty much no sea creature is safe anywhere in the ocean… And if all their underwater measurables weren't enough, they can breach the surface and send themselves soaring through the air, reaching heights of over 10 feet. Their breaching behavior is extremely hard to document since they use it as a tactic to hunt seals, which makes this footage even more astounding. A videographer captured a monster great white breaching near the shoreline in Mossell Bay, South Africa while chasing a seal decoy used by scientists to monitor the behavior of the killing machine. Don’t think I’ll be swimming in South Africa anytime soon… https://twitter.com/AventuraObscura/status/1293136758377455616?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1293136758377455616%7Ctwgr%5E5cb0ff1f22d7af475d31f5be2bab26f46161150a%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2023%2F09%2F15%2Fa-great-white-shark-catches-an-insane-amount-of-air-leaping-out-of-the-water%2F
