That's never what you want to see. The NASCAR
Cup Series is in Michigan today for the rain-delayed FireKeepers Casino 400, and it's been an exciting race so far. A massive crash took out some of the favorites earlier in the race, with Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, Christopher Bell, Chris Buescher and more caught up in a wreck on lap 115. https://twitter.com/NASCAR/status/1825561710884778327 But a few laps later, Corey LaJoie went for a wild ride during a scary incident. On lap 135, LaJoie was racing the #10 car of Noah Gragson, who seemed to turn down the track slightly on the backstretch. LaJoie turned his #7 car to the inside and the two appeared to make contact, sending LaJoie spinning towards the inside. The roof flaps and hood flaps deployed as the car went spinning, but it wasn't enough to keep LaJoie from getting airborne, with the car flipping onto its roof and sliding down the backstretch. As it hits the grass, the car once again starts flipping, barrel rolling before finally coming to rest upright in the turn 3 grass. Luckily (and miraculously) LaJoie was able to walk away without major injury, immediately putting down his window net to signal to emergency crews that he was ok. He was evaluated and released from the infield care center a short time later. And of course it's a testament to the safety advances that NASCAR has made that he was able to safely walk away from a wreck like that. Hell, his car even looked like it was fairly intact. But it's a big concern that his car got airborne in the first place, especially with the flaps coming up that are supposed to keep the cars from flipping over. So I'm sure NASCAR will be working hard to figure out what went wrong and how to prevent it in the future. In an interview after being checked out, LaJoie gave credit to NASCAR for the safety of the car while describing his wild ride:
"It was a ride, buddy. There's sparks and dirt and all sorts of stuff coming in... Just safe cars. Kudos to NASCAR for building safe cars." Great to see Corey ok after that one. https://twitter.com/NASCARonNBC/status/1825567601537298542
