It can't be easy being a father to two young boys while also being one of the biggest country stars in the world. Last year, Luke Combs and his wife Nicole welcomed their second son , Beau Lee Combs, after becoming parents for the first time in 2022 to their son Tex. And I'm sure everybody probably looks at celebrities with kids and thinks, "Oh, they'll just hire somebody to take care of them all the time." But according to Luke, that's not how he wants to do things as a dad. In an interview with
Audacy's Katie Neal on her show Superstar Power Hour, Luke discussed wanting to give his kids the most normal childhood possible. And that means not hiring a nanny to take care of them: “It’s going to be a challenge because we don’t have nannies or any of that stuff... We’ve thought about it, and it’s not a question of ‘Can we afford that?’ It’s a question of ‘Do we want that for our kids?’ And right now, at this time, I don’t think that’s something that we’re really interested in because I want our kids to have as normal of a life as possible considering the circumstances." Luke says he feels that's his responsibility as a dad, and one that he takes seriously: "My kids didn’t ask to be born. It was our choice to have them so it would feel pretty selfish to not give them all the attention. And it's not even like they want the attention, it's like, they inherently need it because we chose to have them.
So it's like, you kinda want to be around for that and give it to them." And he says he also understands why Garth Brooks stepped away at the height of his career to focus on being a dad: "No doubt people thought he was nuts, for sure, but then it's like, it all makes sense once you have kids. Like, yeah man, I probably could just walk away... You kind of reach this thing where it's like, what else is there left to accomplish? What do you still need to accomplish? I get it. But I'm not saying that's what I'm going to do." Ultimately, he just wants to give his kids the most normal childhood possible, despite having a dad who's a massive superstar who spends part of his life on the road playing to sold-out stadiums:
"I want them riding bikes and not riding tour buses." Seems like Luke's got a good perspective heading into life as a father of two. Though let's be honest, at some point those kids are going to want to hop on the tour bus with dad too.
