Imagine being recognized by one of your favorite artists during a VIP set because you helped fund the early days of her career. And I'm not talking about helping her pay for a studio to record an album, but just allowing her to make ends meet. I don't know about y'all, but that sounds like a dream come true to me. Undoubtedly, country music has some of the best fan bases in the industry. When people find an artist they love, they champion them from the early days of their career through retirement. While some levels of fandom might be from streaming everything, and attending the concerts in their city, the more extreme fans splurge on VIP experiences, merch, and other fan experiences. The fans that are this die-hard are often recognized over time by the artists they champion. Lainey Wilson recently saw a fan during one of her VIP acoustic sets. She didn't recognize this fan because she traveled from city to city to see her, but rather because she performed as Hannah Montana at one of her birthday parties. If you weren't aware,
Lainey Wilson was a Hannah Montana impersonator before her country career kicked off. Years ago, she would often open for Hannah Montana. She had the best of both worlds, getting to play her music and playing a character that helped bring in the dough. Wilson hit birthday parties and fairs for five years , putting on her best impression of Miley Cyrus' Disney character. At a recent show in Southaven, Mississippi, Wilson recognized a grown-up fan standing on the rail while walking out for her VIP acoustic and Q+A session. "Man, it's hot. It's good to see you!" She said, pointing at the woman in the crowd. Since many fans around the woman wanted to know how she knew Wilson, she quickly explained to the intimate crowd how they were acquainted.
"I'm so glad y'all are here. You better not cry; you know I'm going to start crying, too. Y'all...McKenzie, I did her fourth birthday party. I impersonated Hannah Montana; I'm not even playing. I feel OLD... I feel old. I love you. It's good to see you." The crowd laughed and cheered once she explained the connection, appreciating the full circle moment. McKenzie's got a dang cool story to say that Lainey Wilson gave her an intimate performance before she was THE Lainey Wilson. If only she were singing "Watermelon Moonshine" or "Country's Cool Again" at her fourth birthday party. This interaction speaks to the kind of woman Wilson is. She holds her fans close and appreciates those who supported her before she reached the point she is at today. This is why she's one of the most loved artists today.
