Touring musicians and hotels go hand in hand together. If you're lucky enough to tour on a bus one day, you have the luxury of sleeping while traveling from one location to the next. However, at one point in their career, most musicians have endured van life, including many stops at hotels nationwide. To keep costs low when moving from one city to the next, many artists and band members have hilarious stories of seeing the good, bad, and the ugly when it comes to where they've stayed.
Jelly Roll started at the bottom, working his way to where he is now, having spent many nights playing for tiny crowds on the road. But look at where it's gotten him now. With those years of rough living, though, Jelly Roll is the expert when it comes to what makes a good hotel and what some of the best hacks are. Jelly Roll sat down with Hotels.com to talk about things he has learned to love about being in hotels and some of the more colorful moments from over the years. Jelly Roll starts the video by noting that he and his band used to sleep in the van, and then they would pretend they were staying at the hotel for the complimentary breakfast. "We were so broke that we would sleep in our van outside of like a Hampton Inn, and then when they did the continental breakfast in the morning, we'd wake up and walk in there, and we'd just walk by the desk and lie. Like 'All right man, I'll see you in the room in the second. I'm going to grab a muffin.' And then we'd all just rush into the continental breakfast and eat."
But Jelly Roll made sure to share his biggest secret about hotel hacks with his fans and viewers. Jelly Roll noted that when you were pulling into a city late at night and needed a few extra hours of sleep before getting up to go to sound check, a late checkout was needed. However, the front desk attendant on the morning of your checkout was not the best person to ask for the extended time in the room. "If you ever come into a hotel late at night, and the late-night desk person is there. That's the person to ask for the late checkout. I'm telling you. They will put it in right there. It's never failed." That's the rockstar secret right there. Jelly Roll also breaks down some of his favorite hotels across the nation in this video, so if you want to stay in some of the same places as Jelly, fire this one up. If you're lucky, maybe your stays will overlap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky0K3iYWIT0
