Slowing it down. Today, Miranda Lambert released the fourth song from her forthcoming 10th studio album, Postcards from Texas called "No Man’s Land." Written by Miranda along with frequent collaborator Luke Dick, where she sings about wanting to be loved, but also to be able to run free and wild. It's definitely the softest, and slowest, song she’s put out so far, and I think it's beautiful and fun to hear this side of Miranda:
“And even when she’s in your arms, She’s still no man’s land, So love her live a mustang, like a wild thing, Better let her run free If she wants to love you, you let her love you, You give her everything” Miranda says it's a true love song, and one of her favorites: "'No Man’s Land' is a love song to me, and it’s one of my favorite songs I’ve maybe ever written. When Luke sent me the initial idea, the lyrics just struck me—they were so beautiful, so raw. It felt like, ‘This is how I can explain it to the man who’s willing to love a girl like me—a free spirit, a wildflower, a wild card but with a big heart and all the love to give.’
It's that sentiment of ‘love her but leave her wild,’ and it’s not really a warning; it’s just a ‘let me tell you what you're getting into, and if you want to jump off and take this ride with me, then let’s go.’" She adds that "‘No Man’s Land’ is like saying, ‘Come with me. Let’s do this together,’ rather than, ‘I’m your property.’ It’s about embracing the wild, uncharted territories of love and life, with all the risks and rewards that come with it." Postcards From Texas was produced by Miranda alongside Jon Randall at Austin’s legendary Arlyn Recording Studios, and she has noted in several interviews now that it’s full of steel guitar and honky tonk production, and harkens back to some of her first, most legendary albums like
Kerosene and Revolution , which as a longtime fan, is quite literally music to my ears. And based on songs she’s already released like “Wranglers,” “Dammit Randy” And most recently “Alimony,” I’d say that’s proving to be the case, and this record stands to be one of the best she’s ever released. It's due out everywhere on September 13th. But of course, on every great country record, there's a love song or two where an artist wears their heart on their sleeve, and Miranda nailed this one.
