Car lovers, this is for you. There is something so prideful about finding an old classic car and restoring it from start to finish. Although I do not personally have experience doing it, those I know who love to spend their free time this way describe it as getting tattoos. After your first restoration, you want to keep going and do another and another. Because this is not a cheap hobby, you often find those in the limelight with extensive collections of restored classic cars. Their extra disposable income allows them to hunt down these rare finds and keep them in their garages. While many know
Hank Williams Jr. as an avid outdoorsman who is always fishing, hunting, or hiking, he was also a massive fan of antique cars. Hank Williams Jr.'s car collection is more than impressive. In a 1992 special, Hank Williams Jr.'s Greatest Video Hits , he takes the camera crew through his prized possessions and artifacts. The snippet from the special starts with Bocephus talking about some of the artifacts he has kept from his father, the great Hank Williams Sr., like a few of his hats and performance jackets. While he loves to be reminded of his father's impact on the country music industry, he'd rather talk about what's behind the garage door and lead the cameraman into his massive showroom of cars.
"Of course, that's talking shop for me, so I like these things over here." Bocephus starts showing the viewers his laundry list of cars. Many of these are found in garages around the country, bought and then restored. It's easy to shell out some more money to get the finished product of the vehicle's restoration, but Bocephus talks like he loves the thrill of hunting down the cars first and foremost. "1950 Mercury that was in a garage in New York. '41 Cadillac touring baby blue sedan. I call that the 'Born To Boogie Car.' It's really fun to ride." Each car the Williams Jr. shows is beautifully kept and has no scratches or smudges. While the laundry list of cars is beyond impressive and fun to geek out on, one of the most important cars in the collection is one that his father used to have.
"And there's the one that my father first toured in when they didn't have jets and interstates. That's a '46 Packard." He takes a second to admire the jet-black car, which shows how far touring musicians have come with their transportation before moving on. His collection of antique trucks is just as impressive as the other cars, and just like the others, he has some funny stories to share with them. "Came from a very prominent bootlegger in Kentucky, this little gold one here. '58 Chevrolet Apache, gold and white. That was a special edition model, so no one could steal it. You had to hotwire it to get it going." With a car collection like that, he could drive a new car for two weeks without repeating a ride. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3o1pDeC6Jk
