So close, but so far... Mako sharks are apex predators who terrorize their ocean prey with their speed and power. Found up and down both coasts of the United States, and down into the Caribbean, over near Hawaii, and pretty much everywhere in between, these predators can reach lengths of 12 feet, and weigh up to 1,000 pounds. They use their razor sharp teeth to eat tuna, swordfish and squid, and with a top speed of over 45 miles per hour, they are the fastest of any shark species. Their insane speeds also allow them to make some incredible leaps, coming fully out of the water. Sounds like a sport fisherman’s dream, right? Well... until they take your catch. For a group of anglers off the coast of the California, the tax man came in August. The group was hooked into a bluefin tuna near San Diego, reeled it to the boat, gaffed it, and out of nowhere, a big ol' mako shark came to snag a bite.
"Here’s a much cleaner version of the Tug O War between Capt. Dan, Tanner and a very large Mako Shark that wanted some sushi." At least they got a show... https://www.instagram.com/p/C-6H_lZtGiX
