There's a lot of ways to measure an artist's success, especially in today's digital landscape, but in at least one regard, Luke Combs is king. Just last week, Luke secured Diamond certifications for "Hurricane" and "When It Rains It Pours", meaning each single topped over 10 million units sold. https://twitter.com/CMT/status/1823758054996713509 Units sold used to be a confusing formula of paid streams, ad supported streams, video on demand, digital purchases, and physical purchases, but fortunately the RIAA has simplified the formula to 150 "on-demand streams" equaling one download sale and an actual purchase counting as (obviously) one sale. This makes Luke the first country artist ever to have two singles, let alone three, be certified Diamond; in fact there's only been
11 songs in genre history to reach the mark, and some of them are pretty questionable... Here's the entire list of country songs certified Diamond by the RIAA:
    • "Cruise" - Florida Georgia Line (10/14/22)
    • "Wagon Wheel" - Darius Rucker (10/27/22)
    • "Old Town Road" - Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus (11/29/22)
    • "Tennessee Whiskey" - Chris Stapleton (3/30/23)
    • "Beautiful Crazy" - Luke Combs (6/12/23)
    • "Body Like A Back Road" - Sam Hunt (8/1/23)
    • "Need You Now" - Lady A (11/29/23)
    • "Heaven" - Kane Brown (12/7/23)
    • "In Case You Didn't Know" - Brett Young (3/19/24)
    • "Hurricane" - Luke Combs (8/14/24)
    • "When It Rains It Pours" - Luke Combs (8/14/24)
Now, there's quite a few very questionable tracks on the list, I mean is "Old Town Road" really classified as a country song? "Body Like A Back Road" is one of the most successful songs in a genre built by Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Merle Haggard? Honestly, this just shows the power that Luke Combs has right now. A regular dude making killer music that packs stadiums and gets your pulse jumping is now the only artist in genre history to have multiple songs move 10 million units. It couldn't have happened to a better guy. Of course, I guarantee Morgan Wallen is hot on his heels after the insane streaming numbers his last two albums have put up, but for now, let's tip our cap to Mr. Luke Combs, the King of Diamond country songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXyxFMbqKYA
