A whirlwind kind of love story. Today, Lainey Wilson released her firth studio album Whirlwind , and this afternoon, she put out the music video for the title track. Directed by Dustin Haney, it's beautifully done and a very high-quality video, which features a couple that's seemingly down on their luck and just trying to get through life, though the ending is surprising and you'll have to watch to see how it all unfolds. Lainey says the song is about the special kind of live that "sweeps you off your feet and makes your heart race," while still making you feel protected and safe:
"'Whirlwind,' the official music video, is out now! This song is about the kind of love that sweeps you off your feet and makes your heart race but also makes you feel grounded, protected, and safe. You know what I mean?" https://www.instagram.com/p/C_BeR-yyM8Z/?img_index=1 The song was written by Lainey along with Trannie Anderson and Dallas Wilson, her co-writers on #1 hit "Heart Like a Truck" and finds Lainey reflecting on the craziness of her relationship that somehow still keeps her grounded at the same time. Lainey told Zane Lowe in an interview with Apple Music 1 this week that the song was her way of saying "I love you" to her boyfriend, Duck : "'I Love You' has been said in a million different ways and we're all just trying to find ways to say it different, but I don't think I'll ever be the love song writer that's super mushy gushy. I finally found a guy that gives me a run for my money. And he's my biggest cheerleader. He's just a good person.
And he knows how important chasing down a dream is because even when he was a little boy, football was his life." She explained that he understands her desire to chase a dream, because he made it all the way to the NFL (he was formerly signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers), and "And he did it and he tried out for the Steelers and made the team. And so he achieved what he set out to do. And so he knows. We met at a time where he was still playing with them, but then it all changed. So it was weird. It was like his life was changing as my life was changing and we were going different directions but... Yeah, it was wild. You would think that somebody couldn't handle that." Zane noted that it was "a great test" for the relationship, and clearly, they're coming out the other side of the craziness much stronger:
"So yeah, life for us is a whirlwind. I mean, it's not normal. We don't get to see each other as often as some couples do, but we also know that have is very special. And so yeah, for the most part it's hard, but it's easy." I just love hearing this side of Lainey, and the unique sound of this one really stands out and I think will become a quick fan-favorite, and is potentially even a future #1 should it ever make it to radio.
