You better act on this quickly. Lainey Wilson dropped her highly anticipated fifth studio album last week, and Whirlwind has taken off like a whirlwind, captivating fans. The style of writing highlighted on this record is far different than what we are used to seeing from Wilson as she leaned into her romantic side (and drew inspiration from her relationship with Duck Hodges) to write a collection of love songs highlighting her softer side. While listeners got to see and learn more about this side of Wilson, the record also highlights the incredible songwriter that Wilson is. As she considered herself a songwriter first, and given that she has busted her a** for the last decade plus a few years in Nashville to get to this point, Wilson is no stranger to putting pen to paper to create a lyrical story. Since the songwriting of this record was so important to Wilson, she is giving fans a glimpse into the room where a few of the songs on the tracklist came to life. Until 11:59 EST tonight, August 26th, Wilson is giving fans download access to
Whirlwind (Worktapes) , an extension of the album featuring four demo tapes. "One of my favorite places to be is in a room with songwriters. I’m bringing y’all back into the room with me and my cowriters the day these songs were born. It’s fun to hear where a song starts and what it becomes, isn’t it? For a limited time, y’all can download my entire Whirlwind album, including the demos for 'Keep Up With Jones,' 'Whiskey Colored Crayon,' 'Devil Don’t Go There,' and 'Ring Finger.' Special shoutout to each of the brilliant writers you’ll hear singing along." https://www.instagram.com/p/C_Imc40uuj1/?img_index=2 When announcing this extended version, she shared samplings of the stripped-back tapes for "Ring Finger" and "Devil Don't Go There." As a country music fan, I always love hearing demos of songs because, at times, the version that appears on the album could have a sound far different from where it first started. It's always neat to hear the bare bones of a song before the bells, whistles, and inner workings of the melody are ironed out. The digital download of these demos will cost fans an additional $4.99 on top of the cost of the album. For those super fans who love the craft of songwriting and want to hear how four of the twelve songs started, you better act fast before the work tapes are gone. While you're here, fire up a few of the songs from the record.
