I’m Convinced Only Miranda Lambert Could Pull Off A Song About Getting High With An “Armadillo”

Absolutely insane... but it works . This weekend, Miranda Lambert returned to her old stomping grounds in Austin, Texas, where she played a surprise, very intimate show for about 200 lucky fans at Stubb's BBQ. The Texas native played some new songs from her forthcoming
Postcards From Texas album, as well as a few old fan-favorites, and was joined by friends in Jack Ingram and Jon Randall for songs like “Tequila Does” and “In His Arms,” which were included on their collaborative The Marfa Tapes record. And aside from debuting "B*tch On The Sauce (Just Drunk)," my favorite song I've seen circulating on social media so far has to be "Armadillo," because it's wacky and crazy and unlike anything I've ever heard before. I'm convinced that only Miranda could make a song like this really work... written by Aaron Raitiere, Jon Decious and Parker Twomey, it tells the story of a gal getting high with an armadillo and not even believing it herself: "Well I met an armadillo,
Out in Amarillo, And he asked me for a light, I said, 'Hey where you going?, He said 'I don't really know,' And I said, 'Brother I've been there twice,' Then he hopped up in his shotgun, And he started rolling one, I said 'We're gonna get on fine,' An armadillo with a doobie and a coldie and a koozie, Had me driving to the county line, I know it sounds crazy, But please believe me baby I swear that's where I was last night" I honestly don't even know exactly what it means, but I did get a good laugh out of it and love seeing her funny, more playful side on a honky tonk heater like this one. Miranda has previously said her new record is
“honky tonk as hell,” and it she produced it alongside the aforementioned Jon Randall at Austin’s legendary Arlyn Recording Studios, so it was cool to see her back at the venue where played her very first label showcase almost exactly 20 years ago to the day. Miranda looked like she felt right at home, and she says that she still has that “same fire” as a young 20-something Miranda did too: “I have a brand new album, and I have the same fire that I had 20 years ago at that show. I love a honky tonk. It’s how I grew up. It’s in my DNA.” The more I hear from this project, the more I can see how “Miranda” it really is, and I can honestly say it might be one of her best yet. September 13th can’t come soon enough... I have to hear the studio cut of this one ASAP:
@lovelikecheyenne YEEHAW 🤠 Miranda premiered the tale of “Armadillo” from Postcards From Texas. Written by @aaronraitiere she knew it was Track One the second she heard it. (And it reminded her of a stuffed armadillo called Lucy she bought on the George Strait tour in 2006, and still has! #mirandalambert #austin #texas #stubbs #armadillo #postcardsfromtexas #countrymusic #fyp ♬ original sound - lovelikecheyenne
