Don't mess with a mama. You could call that a universal rule if you wanted to. Humans and animals alike could benefit from following it. However, there are always creatures out there that don't give the proper respect that mothers deserve, and they typically get straightened out by - you guessed it - moms. Like in this video out of Yellowstone National Park, where a grizzly bear was stalking a bison and its calf (which is described as only a couple of hours old). The mother kept a close eye on the bruin as it followed along, and whenever it got too close for comfort, the 2,000 pound beast would charge right at the grizzly. That's one brave mother. But I'm sure she thought nothing of it, since she was putting herself in danger to protect her offspring. Her motherly instincts served her well, and certainly put the fear of God into the grizzly bear. It can take a lot to scare one of those apex predators, and this mama apparently checked all of the intimidation boxes. A wildlife filmmaker by the name of Tanner Haver captured all of it on video (from a safe distance), and posted the clip to his social media profile with the caption:
"A grizzly bear follows a mother bison and her calf in anticipation of potentially catching the calf. Being only just hours old, the calf quickly learned just how dangerous the environment it was born in can be. Luckily for the calf, its protective mother chased the bear off multiple times before eventually disappearing over a distant ridge. It is unknown whether the bear succeeded or not." https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_IsaP2x0T4/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link That caption sort of leaves the safety of the bison and her calf up in the air, but I'd venture to guess that the mother bison kept her newborn safe and sound. And you've got to give some credit to the baby bison too. It did a great job of staying close to its mother, and as long as it continued to do that, I'm sure it ended up okay. You've got to wake up pretty early in the morning to throw one over on this bison and her baby. The bison calf might have been born in the morning, but it wasn't born
that morning. Oh wait, it just might have been...
