Not a fan of his own album. As artists evolve and grow, it's no secret that sometimes means outgrowing some of their past music. Whether they have adopted a new sound, improved upon their songwriting, or have to perform a song that brings up bad memories, there are always going to be a few songs out of their catalogs that don't strike the same chord they once did. Or they might just be sick and tired of performing a song. Regardless, as fans, it's not the news you want to hear that one of your favorite albums or songs is on the artist's sh*t list, However,
Parker McCollum isn't a fan of much of his music. He recently appeared on The Jarrod Morris Vibe podcast and revealed that there is only one song he's recorded that he likes listening to. He and Morris were chatting about how sometimes you have to pull out some bullsh*t to make a song come to life, and while artists do want to make music that resonates with their fans, sometimes trying to hound, that message makes it unrelatable to them. It's all a part of making art and the creative process. "There's only one song that I've ever recorded that does it for me. That I actually listen to, like when I'm driving I'll put it on. Only one." Morris asks McCollum if he is pulling his leg, and McCollum swears he is not. He then dives into specific examples of what he does not like about some of his music:
"I don't even want to listen to them. When I listen to 'The Limestone Kid,' I'm like, dude, I sound so terrible. I'm like, it drives me crazy." While Morris disagrees heavily, and I think we as the collective would too, McCollum's issues appear more with the production value than the songwriting material. "I mean, I wrote that record when I was 20. I mean, I made that record for...I think like six grand?" McCollum has come a long way since the release of Limestone Kid , and although he might think he doesn't sound great on the record vocally, McCollum still stands by the songwriting. He is currently working on his fifth studio album. He noted that the songs on this album are some of the best he has put together since "The Kid." https://twitter.com/ParkerMcCollum/status/1770283907369320476?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1770283907369320476%7Ctwgr%5Ed76f90b92a14d851f9e7259e6d8354416b1d6564%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.whiskeyriff.com%2F2024%2F04%2F30%2Fid-put-these-songs-up-against-anything-ive-ever-written-parker-mccollum-shares-update-on-5th-studio-album%2F Based on the song he has teased, which he is
dropping next month , I'd say the songwriting looks like it will be stellar right now. However, The Limestone Kid will always hold a special place in our hearts.
