Death-by-gator is not the way to go. Fortunately, these baby raccoons that were dangerously traversing through Florida everglades narrowly avoided becoming lunch. As you'll see in the clip below, the little creatures were more occupied with the boat that was driving by, and the distraction almost cost them their lives. Someone that was on an airboat tour at Everglades Holiday Park (they call their airboat tours "world famous" on their website) was just trying to take a cute video of two little raccoons in the swampy water. And in doing so, they accidentally captured a real-life horror movie. Just out of frame, a small alligator was sizing up the raccoons as it swam up to the log the little animals had navigated themselves onto. Because the passing airboat had so much of their attention, the raccoons didn't even see the gator until the very last moment. Which made for an extremely close call. Something that also didn't help was the man who was yelling at the raccoons from the boat. He was just trying to warn the babies, but his warning was obviously more distracting than it was helpful:
"There's an alligator. There's an alligator right there. ALLIGATOR! Run..." As he yelled, the small gator got closer and closer, until it was literally inches away from one of the raccoons. The other had already ran farther down the log, but the raccoon that was really caught off guard by the boat suddenly found itself staring face-to-face with a swimming alligator. As the raccoon's ears went up, and its instincts kicked in, and I'll let you see for yourself how it played out: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_HKEGThDGP/?igsh=cDFzcHp0ZHEzYTk2 SHEESH. Props to the reaction time of that little raccoon, as well as the balancing ability. Not only did it jump up and dodge the gator's attack, it also managed to land back onto the log so that it could scurry along. If I were either of those raccoons, I'd look into relocating. The Florida Everglades seems like a terrible place for a raccoon - especially young ones - to live...
