College football season is BACK. Of course it technically kicked off last weekend when Georgia Tech pulled off a major upset (or more accurately, Florida State epically shit the bed) during their Week 0 matchup in Dublin. But this weekend is the official first week of college football, and it can't get here quick enough. A lot of teams open up with an FCS team or some other low quality opponent to knock the rust off. Make sure that you don't start off the season with a loss, get the fans excited for the season (or get their hopes up only to crush them later in the season...) and then move on to the better opponents in week 2. Up in Morgantown, West Virginia though, WVU will be opening with their highest ranked opponent of the season. The Mountaineers take on #8 ranked Penn State at home this Saturday, and expectations are high for Coach Neal Brown's sixth season as fans have been "trusting the climb" these past few years. If you've ever been to a game in Morgantown, you know that it's an electric atmosphere (as much as I hate to admit it as a Marshall fan). And not only will the city be buzzing for the game, but Pat McAfee will also be broadcasting his show live from Morgantown on Friday. https://twitter.com/WVUfootball/status/1828126473749962917 If McAfee's performance in Dublin is any indication, I have a feeling I know how that show is going to go. They know how to party up there at WVU. Of course McAfee is himself a WVU alumni, and has already gone on record as saying that the Big 12 runs through Morgantown this season. No pressure... https://twitter.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1827355475114889344 When you combine the excitement of McAfee's show with the season opener and their biggest opponent of the season...well, I have a feeling there's not going to be much work taking place in Morgantown on Friday as the city gears up for the game. And there's not going to be much learning either, because the county announced that they're canceling classes on Friday. Monongalia County Schools announced in a Facebook post that they're giving kids the day off "due to the anticipated traffic congestion and potential delays." So if you're wondering how excited they are for football up in Morgantown...well, even the kids are going to be able to get in on the party. Hide your couches, because if WVU manages to upset Penn State, the city might burn to the ground. https://twitter.com/Monongalia_Co/status/1828886687658979416 Man it feels good to have football back.
