Now I want throw something... Today, Caylee Hammack released a vengeful, scorned song called "Breaking Dishes," which follows the release of her song with Foy Vance "The Hill" she put out about a month ago. Caylee has been on my radar for a while now, and I absolutely loved her song "Small Town Hypocrite," especially the duet version she
released with Chris Stapleton , so I'm always excited to hear new music from her. "Breaking Dishes" was written by Hammack along with Mikey Reaves and Gordie Sampson, and finds her ready to blow a bad relationship up and finally move on... and of course, breaking a dish or two when you're that pissed off always helps, too. I don't know why, but it just does, and Caylee says the song was actually written six years ago, so it's been a long time coming and she wanted it to be something for a "scorned women to vent to" (right up my alley): "'Breaking Dishes is a sonic ‘eye for an eye.’ Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, as they say. I don’t make a habit of throwing things, no, but I wanted to make a song for scorned women to vent to. It fell out of the sky and into our laps one day in 2018 in a writer's room, now 6 years later, it has found its avenue to be shared with the world. Here we are, breaking dishes and breaking up."
The production has some awesome banjo that really makes the song feel urgent and hasty, and Caylee's always had such unique voice that lends really well to this kind of dark, sassy kind of tune. If you like songs like Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder & Led" and other ones like it, you'll love this one too. Check it out: "Breaking Dishes" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM2wzNjhxB8
