If you looked at our Country New Music Friday cover this week and were unsure who the cover artist was, you must change that ASAP. https://www.instagram.com/p/C_TErZCALG5/?img_index=1 Ritch Henderson is one of the numerous talents coming out of Alabama these days. Standing alongside other stellar independent artists, Henderson is a true road warrior traveling to each end of the nation, spreading his prolific songwriting. Henderson served our nation's Marine Corps and, after Afghanistan, found himself struggling with PTSD, numbed the pain in unhealthy ways. After the release of his 2023 debut album,
Fallacies and Four-Word Letters, Henderson found himself touring with some of the best in the business, supporting acts like 49 Winchester, Drayton Farley, Alro McKinney, and more. He rightfully found his seat at the table with his stellar sound. Earlier this week, Henderson did it again with his second record, Alive In Alabama. "Y’all know I don’t like to string you along with marketing inundation and dangling carrots on a string for months on end ain’t really my thing. I take our connection seriously, and value your time tremendously. My band and I made a new record titled 'Alive in Alabama' it will be available everywhere tonight at midnight. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to create, and release my art in a way that doesn’t compromise my values. Myself, and my entire team are eternally grateful. I hope y’all love it as much, as we do.
We really enjoyed making this one. For the people, by the people, baby." https://www.instagram.com/p/C_JVhG6SNLG/ This collection of 10 songs is a continuation of the sound that Henderson defined on his debut record, yet builds on his skill as a songwriter. The songs detail heartbreak from the poverty-stricken region that Henderson is from while also touching on love, loss, and the devastation felt by the opioid and methamphetamine epidemic. "Same Size Hole" encompasses all of these feelings as the lyrics detail stories of those who find themselves in a cycle of addiction, noting that it can happen to anyone, no matter their socioeconomic class. The dark and eerie melody pairs perfectly with the haunting lyrics. "Never a lived a day of life Worried about the bills
The thirst for confrontation Doubles with the pills We all go in the same size hole.." This is just one example of how each track on this album tells a complete story. Now's the time to tune into Ritch Henderson if you haven't acquainted yourself with him already. Fire up a few early favorites.
