Her Whirlwind year continues. This afternoon, Billboard revealed this week's new Billboard 200 chart standings, which saw an incredibly close battle between Sabrina Carpenter with Short n’ Sweet and Travis Scott with
Days Before Rodeo for the #1 spot. It ultimately went to Sabrina, who now has the third largest debut among all female artists in 2024 so far, though the difference in the #1 and #2 spot was apparently decided by less than 1,000 units and has been a hot topic online. Anywho, Lainey Wilson came in at #8 on the 200 chart with the aforementioned Whirlwind , her fifth studio album and first-ever Top 10 on the chart after moving 48,000 equivalent album units (her best week ever by units). With all the hype and talk around this record, it's exciting to see Lainey on this chart among some of the biggest pop stars in the world, including her friend and collaborator Post Malone, who falls to #3 with his big country debut album,
F-1 Trillion : Lainey is obviously at the top of her game right now, and she proved exactly why on this album. There's so much variety in 14 songs, from love songs like “Whirlwind” and “Counting Chickens,” which were inspired by her relationship with Duck Hodges, to biting, funny tunes like
“Ring Finger” (one of my favorites), Lainey’s depth is on full display and I’m so here for it. On “Devil Don’t Go There,” another one of my favorites, she addresses heartbreak in a strikingly honest, almost dark way, and on “Middle Of It,” Lainey encourages all of the dreamers to keep their eye on the ultimate goal and not get lost into the disappointments, highs and lows of what comes with it… coming from her, it’s incredibly authentic and totally believable. The closing track, “Whiskey Colored Crayon,” is a stunner and a standout she wrote with Josh Kear and Wyatt McCubbin, and the kind of timeless, heart-wrenching song every bona fide country artist needs in their catalog. After two years of finding superstardom, being on magazine covers and winning every kind of country award an artist could every could dream of, and
even a Grammy , Lainey has kept her feet planted firmly on the ground, staying true to her Louisiana roots through her whirlwind life. The figurative storm, so to speak, has shaped and molded her into a better, more confident artist, and though I’m sure it’s come along with tests, trials, and maybe even a few cuts and bruises, she’s come out on the other side of it with a no-skips, timeless album that’s uniquely Lainey and country as hell.

“I Pitched The Whole Record” — Lainey Wilson Plays It Coy When Asked If Her New Music Will Be Featured On ‘Yellowstone’

I'm quite certain that one, if not more than one, of Lainey Wilson's new songs will be featured on the Yellowstone
Season 5 Part 2 soundtrack. Slated to air on November 10th, which was previously confirmed by Paramount to be the final installment of the flagship series (though there might be other plans in the works ), Lainey will return as her character Abby for at least this season, and she's apparently filming a scene in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards . Now obviously, that pretty much means that she's performing an original song, but in an interview with radio host Ashley Morrison on iHeart Country/US 103.5 this week, Lainey explained that they haven't started filming her parts yet, nor has she even seen a script, so she can't confirm anything yet: "Yes, we actually haven't filmed just yet, but hopefully we will be filming here soon. And I don't have the script or anything just yet, but I'm down to keep acting. I mean, it's another way for me to be creative and it's fun."
Lainey also joked that she "pitched the whole" Whirlwind record she just released to producers for consideration, and I can't imagine a world in which at least one or two of those songs don't make the cut... I mean, Lainey literally plays a musician named Abby: "You know, I pitched the whole record, just hoping they would put all of them in there, so we'll see what happens. No, I think it kind just depends on, you know, what they're wanting the character to say. And me and Abby, the character, we really do have a lot on in common so it'll be interesting to see which ones they choose." Personally, I think songs like "Call A Cowboy" or even the title track "Whirlwind' would be perfect, especially if we get to see her on-screen romance with ranch worker Ryan evolve (played by Ian Bohen), and I really hope we do, for obvious reasons... https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck6Q6rQLVvX/ Last week, Yellowstone released a new teaser that almost seemed like they were hinting at a Kevin Costner return , so maybe (hopefully) we'll get to see him in the series finale after all, too: "Whirlwind" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaEs3SaF5Dg "Call A Cowboy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO0e6eo3h_0
