If you're a bluegrass fan and you aren't listening to Mountain Grass Unit, then you're missing out on the early days of the genre's next big band. Formed in Birmingham, Alabama and currently comprised of four extremely talented college students, the jamgrass group has experienced rapid growth within the genre as a result of heavy summer touring over the past couple years. Despite their young age and relative inexperience, Mountain Grass Unit has put together one of the best live shows you can find on the heels of frequent improvisation, harmonized vocals, and carefully curated setlists that not only showcase their original music but also provide plenty of opportunities for the band to put their own spin on a seemingly endless catalog of covers. Their incredible live show has not only caught the attention of fans all across the country, but it's also landed them a spot on the lineup for the Live on the Plains festival in Auburn, AL in November where they will take the stage directly before Tyler Childers, as well as a spot on the lineup for both days of Billy Strings' annual Renewal event and the Bourbon & Beyond Festival later this month. And now, for the first time in over a year, Mountain Grass Unit is releasing new music, too. After having tested out most of their new and unreleased material on the road this past summer, the band has begun rolling out singles for their forthcoming project
Runnin' From Trouble , and the first single "Hey Mama" is out today. Give it a listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LgkXVwY1M8 Mountain Grass Unit was initially formed as a string trio of childhood friends Drury Anderson (vocals, mandolin), Luke Black (guitar), and Sam Wilson (upright bass), but with the recent addition of Josiah Nelson on fiddle, the jamgrass outfit has entered another realm of sonic capability that is sure to strike a chord with audiences everywhere. If you haven't listened to Mountain Grass Unit, here are a few YouTube videos to get you started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIIkLkYoQ1Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14Z8lO8JC-Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgNYK2Gfaus While the band's schooling makes it harder to tour during the academic year, they've hit the road hard each of the past few summers, and as more people continue to take note, they've picked up more and more shows throughout the year as they can. One word of advice - Catch these guys live as soon as you can. On the verge of a massive breakthrough, the band's trajectory is impressive and the venues and crowds are already getting bigger each time they return to a city. You'll be glad you did. 9/21 - Bourbon & Beyond - Louisville, KY* 9/27-9/28 - Renewal 2024 - Buena Vista, CO* 11/9 - Live on the Plains - Opelika, AL* 11/29 - Boulder Theatre - Boulder, CO^ *Festival Date ^Supporting Leftover Salmon https://www.instagram.com/p/C_j8NSRR0Mh/
