Jon Bon Jovi is good people. Yesterday, a video went viral of the the legendary rock star walking up to someone that had climbed over the railing of the Downtown Nashville pedestrian bridge (that connects the Lower Broadway area to Nissan Stadium), and appeared to be contemplating a jump. He just so happened to be in the area (filming for a music video), and from watching the footage shred by The Metro Nashville Police Department, he didn't hesitate to walk up to the struggling individual to talk to her. After a minute or so of conversation, Bon Jovi and the person he was with helped to bring the woman back over the railing and safely onto the bridge - and the two can be seen embracing just feet from where the woman had been standing over the water, and it's pretty clear he played a big part in saving her life. The Metro Nashville Police Department shared this message yesterday, along with a link to the video of the potentially life saving interaction:
"A shout out to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge Tuesday night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety." https://twitter.com/MNPDNashville/status/1833970989354348832 Incredible. And while on the red carpet ahead of presenting at the VMA's, Miranda Lambert was asked about her thoughts on the situation (though I don't think she knew the full story and what the interviewer meant by Bon Jovi "saving" someone from the bridge), seeing as she is a longtime resident of Music City. It was divine timing, really, and Miranda wasn't surprised at all to hear that he stepped in to help, saying "that sounds like Nashville":
"Really? That sounds like Nashville. That's what I love about that place, honestly. I always say it's a big, tough city, but it's a lot of small town people with a small town feel. Nashville, I love that community, that's where we call home. I always say I'm T and T girl, half my heart's in Texas and half's in Tennessee."
It just goes to show that anyone and everyone can step in to become an everyday hero, and this time around, it just so happened to be Jon Bon Jovi walking by. As Police Chief John Drake of the MNPD stated in the post above: "It takes all of us to help keep each other safe." You can view the harrowing moment that Jon Bon Jovi talked a woman off of the ledge in the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc2_qU0ReWI If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or text Crisis Text Line at 741741.
