Colorado State is standing on business. The Rams remember how their "Rocky Mountain Showdown" with Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes went down last year. It was one of the most watched college football games early on in the season, as everyone tuned in to watch an underdog Colorado State team try to knock off a then undefeated Colorado Buffaloes team. They were pretty dang close to pulling through on it too. The Rams were up 28 to 20 with just over two minutes left in the game last year, yet Sanders and Colorado managed to go on a game-tying drive that sent the game into an electric overtime period (the NFL should take note of how fun it is when both teams get the ball) Colorado escaped with a 43 to 35 overtime victory, and the Buffaloes hype train rolled on... until it completely derailed shortly afterwards and Sanders' team finished with a 4-8 record, which ranked dead last in the last year's PAC 12 conference. Fast forward to this week, as a rematch between the two teams that put together an instant classic last year will be played this weekend. Colorado and Colorado State will face off once again, this time at the Rams place, and Colorado is only favored by 7 points this time around. And judging by the quotes from Colorado State wide receiver Tory Holton, they are fired up to welcome Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes into their stadium:
"We owe them one. That's just something that's been sitting on everybody's minds since we came back from break. We owe them. We walk away from that game... I don't think we left it all on the field because we should have murdered them guys. They came out with that attitude like they were on top of the world. This ain't no cinderella story. We're coming for revenge." Wow... that's bulletin board material if I've ever seen it. And Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi wasn't afraid to talk some smack either, and ripped Colorado for seemingly caring more about followers than football: "They came out with that attitude and thought it was going to be a cake walk. They saw the reports (about being favored) 27 and a half points or whatever it was. And they got a rude, rude awakening - real quick. I think it goes to show that the hype, the media train, all that only gets you so far. At the end of the day, you have to lineup 11 guys against our 11 guys and we'll find out who wants it more. We'll see how far Instagram followers gets them."
What a line. And the QB's wide receiver had his back, as Holton piggybacked off of the social media followers comment: "We all came here to play football. So at the end of the day, the millions of followers and the fans that they got, and celebrities that jumped on their side because of who Deion Sanders is. At the end of the day, Deion Sanders ain't playing. It's those players playing, so those players better back up on what they speak about." https://twitter.com/Romi_Bean/status/1834058245553471521?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1834058245553471521%7Ctwgr%5E7f817b5e9f98555405d2a7ee5814fb1a4972910e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.barstoolsports.com%2Fblog%2F3525172%2Fwell-see-how-far-instagram-followers-get-them-colorado-state-is-talking-a-big-game-ahead-of-this-years-matchup-against-colorado Something tells me both sides are going to be fired up when they play each other at 6:30 CST on Saturday on CBS...
