Just trying to protect themselves. That's what the brother of a police officer suspended over the incident with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is claiming, blaming the wide receiver for not complying and rolling up his window. In case you somehow missed it, Hill was handcuffed and detained ahead of last week's season opener after being pulled over just outside of Hard Rock Stadium. According to the tickets that were issued, Hill was reportedly speeding at 60 mph and not wearing his seatbelt. https://twitter.com/JeffDarlington/status/1833583556708471122 Bodycam
video released last week shows Hill handing the officer his license and rolling up his window, which set off the officer who then demanded that the wide receiver get out of the car. Officers then pulled Hill from the car and handcuffed him while he was on the ground, then stood up him and moved before another officer came up behind him and grabbed his neck to get him to sit down. Of course the bodycam footage didn't look great, and the Miami-Dade Police Department has already placed one officer on administrative duties as they conduct an internal investigation. But Hill also admits that he's not blameless in the encounter. Speaking with the media today, Hill admits that he wishes he had behaved better: "I could have been better. I could have let down my window in that instant."
But Hill says that he had rolled up his window to keep others from seeing him and taking pictures of the Dolphins star receiver pulled over on the side of the road: "I don't want attention. I don't want to be, cameras out, phones on you, in that moment. But at the end of the day, I'm human. I gotta follow rules, I gotta do what everyone else would do... Now, does that give them the right to literally beat the dog out of me? Absolutely not. But at the end of the day, I wish I could go back and do things a bit differently." We haven't heard much from the officers involved as the investigation into their conduct is still ongoing. But the brother of Danny Torres, the officer suspended over the encounter, is speaking out to defend his sibling and placing blame for the escalation on Hill. David Torres spoke out to the
Daily Mail , and said that Hill was in the wrong for rolling up his window: "The tints that he had were illegal tints. For the safety of the officer, he has to be able to see inside the vehicle at all times...

Nobody really wants to admit that Tyreek disrespected the police officers. If you watch the video, he did not follow instructions from the get-go. He was yelling at the officer and telling him not to bang on his window.

If you know anything about dealing with police officers, you know do not raise your window on them.

The officers have every right to keep themselves safe. And that's exactly what happened. They were keeping themselves safe."

Of course the investigation is still ongoing so we'll have to wait and see whether Torres is vindicated or whether he'll face further discipline for his actions during the detention. But at least he's got his brother to back him up. https://twitter.com/AndySlater/status/1833273674033463799
